My best friend and spiritual son Apostle, Dr. Paul Costa, passed away last night at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. At his side; his beloved wife Jan, their son Clark and his wife Alexis, their Pastor Brian Copeland of Gateway Church, Pastor/Apostle Denny Duron of Shreveport, Louisiana (who led Paul to Christ), Jan’s intercessory group and me. Pastor Copeland ministered to us as we shed many tears when Paul went on to Glory.

His son Clark wrote Facebook: “My daddy just passed. The greatest man I’ve ever known. He taught me how to be a man, taught me what it was to love the Lord. I will miss him so very much, but I know he is in Heaven celebrating with my brother and my grandparents and loving on Jesus. Words can’t do justice what he meant to me and my family but I just want to say that I love you dad and I will do my best to make you proud.” (Photo with Clark, Alexis, Jan and Paul).

A few facts about Paul Costa: He earned a B.A. Degree in Communications from the University of Notre Dame, and Masters and Ph.D.degrees in Theology from the California Graduate School of Theology. He played college football for the University of Notre Dame and spent 8 seasons with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills from 1965-1972 as a tight end and offensive tackle. He also played 2 seasons in Birmingham, Alabama in the now defunct World Football League.

It was during his football career that one of his team mates, Quarterback Denny Duron, led Paul to the Lord. Photo here with Paul protecting his quarterback, Denny Duron (now Pastor of Evangel Cathedral in Shrevport, Louisiana.

In 1980, Paul went into full-time ministry and established a church in his hometown of Port Chester, NY. Paul spent 16 years as a pastor and traveled nationally and internationally for over 20 years, as a speaker in churches, conferences, and schools. He primarily ministered in the gifts of healing and prophecy, with an apostolic gift for healing impartation. This year he released: Healing the Multitudes (

Dr. Costa also co- authored End Time Warriors and Power to Get Wealth with me and was the Editor-in-Chief for Antioch Churches and Ministries (ACM). Many don’t know that Paul was a sports broadcaster and football commentator on TV and owned several businesses: a restaurant, taxi service and rug company in Buffalo, NY.
I was 16 years old when I met Paul (17) in Bordentown Military Academy in New Jersey. We went on to separate universities and didn’t re-connect until I was 53 and God the Lord tied us together!

Paul was a man of great faith and great courage. A man of humility and meekness, who with all of his trophies from pro-football, never really displayed them because he was always seeking the higher prize of the Lord and King Jesus Christ. Paul has been fighting a valiant battle with cancer and now he is free of the pain and struggle. He will be greatly missed by all who ever knew him. In the coming weeks there will be memorial celebration service at Gateway Church in North Richland Hills, Texas conducted by his Pastor Brian Copeland, Pastor Denny Duron and myself. We will let you know about the arrangements as soon as possible.

I would like your prayers especially for his wife Jan and son Clark and his wife Alexis who will greatly miss him – I know I will for the rest of my life.

Building together with Him and you,

John P. Kelly
