3 Capabilities Every Apostolic Leader Needs
Three capabilities an apostolic leader must use when dealing with a crisis, chaos or conflict:
1. Maintain emotional stability: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger…” (James 1:19).
2. Exercise mental agility: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Tim. 1:7).
3. Seek a Divine Solution: “For You have made known to us [the solution to] the king’s matter” (Dan.2:23 AMP).
Each of these are developed from prayer, study, and experience. Here are some examples based on the 3 capabilities above:
1. How do apostolic leaders become emotionally stable? How do they deal with grief, anger, temptation, and more? By seeking the counsel of a committed Spiritual Parent with a mature biblical worldview who has overcome trials and tribulations.
This may be the most important thing a leader can do to mature.
A spiritual parent will have the patience and wisdom to guide a person into emotional stability and maturity. A true spiritual parent gives Christ-like love, the agape love of God.
Look for a spiritual parent (father or mother) who is Committed to your Success. One who is not trying to build their own kingdom, but build you into an emotionally mature leader!
“Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong” (Heb 5:14).
2. How do apostolic leaders Exercise Mental Agility?
How can leaders be ready in season and out of season (2 Tim.4:2)?
During a crisis or conflict and situations suddenly change, or it might change, or all is going well and God tells you to change directions, how does a leader mentally change course and know what to do next?
By having a mind that is already Prepared to Expect Change and be Agile in the moment. Like Nehemiah.
Nehemiah was constantly aware of the enemy outside the city and the evil leaders within the city of Jerusalem.
During construction, Nehemiah told everyone to be ready to defend the city at any moment. “So we labored in the work, and half of the men held the spears from daybreak until the stars appeared.” And “neither I, my brethren, my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me took off our clothes, except that everyone took them off for washing” (Neh. 4:23).
They stayed ready to fight. This required them to be mentally agile and to be ready in season and out of season (2 Tim.4:2).
Building the Kingdom of God requires exercising mental agility.
3. Apostolic leaders Seek a Divine Solution for every situation.
“For You have made known to us [the solution to] the king’s matter” (Dan.2:23 AMP).
Daniel exercised great mental agility and emotional maturity when King Nebuchadnezzar became furious and gave the command to destroy all the wise men of Babylon!
As one of the premier wise men, Daniel needed a Divine Solution – fast. He needed to act as a mature man of God not an immature baby. So, “Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation.”
Then “Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision and Daniel blessed the God of heaven.” Dan. 2:11-18.
Daniel told the King the answer and where it came from. As a result, the King honored God and promoted Daniel and his friends!
Seek a Divine Solution for every situation and God will meet the need!
